Abstract In March 1971, B.R. Gopal discovered a partially buried pillar with visible inscribed writing in the village of Guḍnāpur Karnataka. The monument has since become known as Pillar Inscription Ravivarman (ca. 465–500 CE ) after ruler early Kadamba kingdom who commissioned it. inscription preserves compelling historical record that details intersections religious and political performance at court centered around temple to Kāma constructed within confines royal residence Vaijayantī (Banavasi), distribution agrarian lands support its maintenance. This study presents new translation analysis text discussion ‘text-monument’ was both embedded constitutive landscapes: physical built well rhetorical imagined.
